CBD Oil Strength: Which One is Best for You?

Patience and consistency are key when it comes to finding the right strength of CBD oil for your body. Therefore, making sure you figure out the best serving size for your particular needs is important. When it comes to CBD, it’s imperative to start your daily routine right away and stick with it. These simple principles will help you get started if you’re struggling to find the right dose of CBD for your needs.

What Does CBD Oil Strength Mean?

When we refer to CBD oil strength, we’re talking about the potency, or the intensity of CBD that’s contained in a particular product. Potency is all about proportion– how much CBD is in the product compared to the amount of oil or the number of gummies is an important thing to watch for.

Why Does CBD Oil Strength Matter?

CBD oil strength is important to pay attention to because you don’t want to take random strengths here and there or it will make it harder for you to understand or notice the effects it might be having on you. With oil you can take a dosage of your choice simply by drawing more oil up into the dropper or less, you control the amount of CBD you take. So while a 600mg bottle of CBD has a total of 600mg, your serving size might just contain 10mg. Or you might be taking enough to equal 20mg each time. In other words– you’re not drinking the whole bottle at once, but taking it in small pieces. Once you find a potency that works best for you, it’s important to stay consistent with that and only increase once you feel it’s needed. Taking too much CBD is not only a waste of your money, it doesn’t translate into a “better” or “stronger” experience. Taking too much CBD is just as ineffective as taking too little.

How Different Delivery Methods Affect CBD Strength

In truth, different delivery methods don’t really affect the strength of your CBD, but it can certainly affect the onset or timing of the effects. Capes are considered one of the fastest delivery methods, but carry with them some risk related to the vaping devices and lung health. Oils are also a very effective and efficient delivery method because they utilize the copious blood vessels under the tongue and in the mouth to quickly get the CBD into your system without wasting much time or energy. Gummies and other ingested CBD methods take longer to hit, but will also linger in your system for longer. So the strength stays pretty constant, but you might notice a difference for your body and choose accordingly!

Finding the Right Strength of CBD Oil for Your Body

We’ve all got different genetic makeups and environmental factors that we’re contending with, so it’s important to look at all of that when choosing the right strength of CBD oil for yourself.

Height and Weight Make a Difference

Your height and weight can affect how much CBD you’ll need. Are you tall or short? Do you have a high or low body mass? People with a smaller body mass tend to need less CBD to experience its benefits, while people with larger body masses may need higher amounts of CBD to experience the same effects. Therefore those with higher body masses might want to lean more towards the 1200mg or 2400mg tinctures. However, if your body mass is on the smaller side, then you might consider starting with the 600mg or 1200mg CBD oil tincture options.

As far as deciding between one of the two strengths, you shouldn’t have to worry about that either. All of FAB CBD’s oils increase by multiples of two. These clean and potent full-spectrum CBD oils come in strengths of 300mg, 600mg, 1200mg, and 2400mg and in smooth, bright, and refreshing flavors of vanilla, citrus, berry, mint, and natural. Therefore, you can easily scale between strengths with the same bottle.

There’s a Tried and True Method That Can Help

If you’ve been wondering what the best way to begin your CBD oil regimen is, there is a simple method that can help you get started to finding the right dose for your body. First, when taking CBD oil, you should start low and gradually increase your dose over time. Even though everyone’s body is different, anyone who is trying to find the best dose of CBD for their body should do so slowly and methodically.

A great pattern to follow is to take a half a dropper full of CBD once a day and stay with that dose for 7-10 days while checking in with your body to see how you’re feeling. For example, if you’ve purchased 600mg of FAB CBD full-spectrum oil, take a half dropper full (10mg) of CBD once a day for about a week. Check in with your body at the end of the week. If you feel like you need to increase your dose, then go up to a half a dropper full twice a day. This will now equal 10mg of CBD twice a day, or 20mg of CBD a day. Stay at the new dose for another week before checking in with your body again. Follow this simple pattern for every time you are increasing your dose.

When you take your CBD oil, drop it sublingually and hold it there for about 60-seconds before swallowing. This allows the oil to directly enter into your bloodstream through the thin membranes under your tongue. To have increased absorption, you can also swish the oil around in your mouth (once you’ve held it under your tongue) before swallowing.

Consistency Matters

When you consistently take your CBD oil around the same time(s) each and every day, you have a better chance to feel as many benefits from the oil as possible. You should also take your CBD oil on a relatively empty stomach and away from any prescription medications. If you have concerns about taking CBD oil with prescription medications, then it’s important that you reach out to your primary care doctor or prescribing physician with any questions.

Monitor and Track Your Results in Every Area You Can

The best way to figure out if you’re seeing any improvements within yourself while taking CBD is to keep a journal. Make sure to take note of any changes or lack thereof. You may need to give it that full two weeks to feel any noticeable differences, or you may even need a little more or a less CBD oil during the process. The overall goal here is to find a baseline so that you can establish the best strength of CBD oil for your unique health and wellness needs.

A Final Word on Finding Your Best CBD Oil Strength

Since CBD’s growth in popularity throughout the years, the market has become flooded with both CBD brands and products. Choosing the right brand and product for your unique needs can become confusing and frustrating. Since 2017, FAB CBD has been on a mission to create the most potent, effective, and cleanest CBD products on today’s market. Not only does FAB CBD use some of the best ingredients to craft their CBD products, but they also care about being transparent. It is through that transparency that their customers know they’re getting the highest quality CBD products.

When it comes to dosing, there certainly isn’t a lack of information floating around on the internet as to the best ways of finding the right dose for yourself. But looking at all that information can be overwhelming if you don’t break it down into smaller parts. The best way to find the CBD oil strength that’s right for your body is to remain patient and consistent. And even when you do find a dose that works the best for you, you may still need to adjust either the dose or the strength down the road. Finding your best dose of CBD is a very fluid process.

CBD Oil Strength – Which Concentration Should You Choose?

Trying to find the right CBD oil strength for your situation can be difficult, especially when some brands define the benefits of CBD with their potency. For instance, products like 150 mg or 300 mg are better suited for pets and lightweight users, whereas concentrations of 2000 or 3000 mg are formulated to address the needs of people who whey more than 225 lbs.

But what does that tell you? After all, people use CBD oil for different purposes, so CBD oil strength may not necessarily be the driving factor behind its effectiveness.

So, how do you pick the best CBD strength for yourself?

What factors should you take into consideration?

CBD Strength: Explaining the Differences

If you check out Gold Bee’s CBD oils, you’ll notice that we focus on high-strength CBD oils. That’s because higher CBD strengths usually mean a lower cost per mg of CBD. That being said, we also stock some low-strength products, such as 25 mg gummies or 10 mg honey sticks; that’s because we cater to all types of CBD consumers.

There are a few questions you should ask yourself if you want to decide what CBD strength will be your best match:

What Does the Strength of CBD Oil Mean?

When shopping for CBD oil, always read the product’s label to ensure how much CBD is in the product and how much CBD it offers in one milliliter.

For example, the Gold Bee 1200 mg CBD oil contains “1200 mg” of total CBD, so it tells you how much CBD you’d get if you swallowed the entire content (which we don’t recommend). However, if you want to get the CBD concentration per serving, you need to calculate the amount of CBD per milliliter.

Our CBD oil comes in 30-mL bottles, so all you need to do is simple math: divide 1200 mg by 30 mL — and there you have it, 40 mg of CBD/mL.

At Gold Bee, we always list the amount of CBD in a single serving on the back of the container to make it easier for new consumers to choose the best format and strength for their needs.

Does CBD Strength Refer to Pure CBD?

Since the CBD market is unregulated in labeling guidelines, many companies are very ‘liberal’ in their statements about the strength of their CBD oil.

For instance, some companies will tell you that their products contain 3000 mg of PHYTONUTRIENTS from hemp, which doesn’t tell you about the exact CBD content.

If you want to make sure that the number of milligrams on the bottle refers to the amount of CBD, opt for products that say, for example, “1200 mg of CBD”. The certificate of analysis (CoA) from a third-party laboratory will provide information about the levels of other phytonutrients in your CBD oil — but what matters is the actual CBD strength.

It’s a different story if you’re buying CBD oil that uses isolate — such products don’t contain any other hemp compounds, so if the bottle says 1000 mg, it refers to pure CBD.

At Gold Bee, we only use full-spectrum or broad-spectrum CBD because we’re advocates of the entourage effect (learn more about the entourage effect HERE). Our bottles state how much CBD is in the bottle and per serving — the rest is available in the lab reports of our CBD oils, which we send on request to our customers.

How Different Delivery Methods Affect CBD Strength

CBD comes in different forms, including oils, gummies, capsules, honey sticks, and even pet products.

The delivery method of CBD can have a profound impact on its strengths.

You can take CBD either through: sublingual use, oral consumption, inhalation, or absorption through the skin. All those methods require CBD to be broken down before it gets released into the bloodstream. The amount of CBD that your body can use after metabolizing CBD in the liver and gut determines the product’s bioavailability.

Here’s a short explanation of how different consumption methods affect CBD oil’s strength.

Oral Consumption

Whether through gummies, honey sticks, or capsules, Swallowing CBD offers the lowest bioavailability because it passes through your digestive system before reaching the bloodstream. Oral products can be useful if you’re looking for steady and long-lasting effects because it lasts for up to 8 hours.

Sublingual Use

Sublingual use refers to products like CBD oils or spray. When you apply CBD under the tongue, it absorbs through the mucous membrane after holding it for 30 to 60 seconds before swallowing. Sublingual products have higher bioavailability than oral forms; they kick in faster and will also hang around with you for 4–6 hours.

Inhalation

Inhalation, through smoking or vaping, offers the highest bioavailability of all consumption methods since your lungs contain many blood vessels designed to absorb gases. As a result, this method produces a faster and stronger effect, but its duration is shorter-lived, usually lasting up to 4 hours.

Topical Application

The bioavailability of topical CBD products depends on the formula you use. Standard topicals like lotions, creams, and bath bombs don’t absorb into your bloodstream at all, but since your ski also has endocannabinoid receptors, you can still benefit from topical application.

However, CBD transdermal patches use a different mechanism of action. If you leave it for a few hours, the CBD will slowly work its way through the skin and reach the bloodstream, potentially making it the strongest delivery method of all.

What CBD Oil Strength Should I Use?

Much as we’d love to give you a simple answer, choosing the right strength for your situation is more complicated. Research on CBD is in an early stage right now, so this is not an exact science. That being said, there are a few things you can do to determine what CBD will be effective in your case.

Your Weight Matters for the Strength of CBD Oil

This is true for all health supplements that you take. That’s why our CBD oils for pets are roughly half as potent as our low-strength 1200 mg CBD oil. So if you’re a big bruiser, you may want to start at a higher CBD strength than if you’re a lightweight user.

CBD Can Take Time to Work

Another thing to keep in mind when choosing the strength of your CBD oil is that not all of its effects can be noticed right away. While some people report significant improvements on first use, many others find that the positive effects of CBD creep up on them after, say, 2 weeks of consistent consumption.

That’s the reason we advise our customers to start slow. As you probably have noticed, a low-strength CBD oil is also a cheaper one, so if you find it beneficial for your health, then it can be helpful for your budget, too. Try taking a low CBD oil strength every morning and evening, keep a dosage log, monitor your body’s response, and gradually increase the dose if necessary.

Establishing the Best CBD Routine with Different Strengths of CBD Oil

Last but not least, you should establish a CBD routine that will help you get the most out of your supplementation. Consumers pick different CBD strengths because they use CBD for different reasons. For example, an individual who takes CBD for daily support of the endocannabinoid system will probably benefit from lower strengths than a person whose goal is to alleviate strong physical discomfort.

Daily CBD for General Support

As mentioned earlier, the best way to maintain a daily CBD regimen is to incorporate it into your existing routine. For example, if you take supplements every morning, you can add CBD capsules to the set. Or, if you want to balance the stimulating effects of your morning coffee, try adding a few drops of CBD oil for a smoother vibe.

CBD for Post-Workout Recovery

If you work out every day or have a particularly demanding physical activity like a hiking trip or home repair, you might want to opt for stronger CBD oils to aid in recovery. In addition, joint and muscle aches can be alleviated with CBD oils or topicals. Therefore, the difference in CBD strengths is an important factor when choosing a product to suit your lifestyle.

CBD for Sleep

Being exposed to many stimuli throughout the day can also place a lot of burden on your mind, negatively affecting your circadian rhythm. Maintaining normal sleep patterns is paramount for your well-being, so if you have difficulty getting a restful night, our high-strength CBD oil or CBD gummies could lend a hand. In addition, higher doses of CBD have sedative-like effects because they temporarily lower blood pressure; they can also take the edge off your stress.

Ask Your Doctor About Different CBD Oil Strengths

We can only provide general information about CBD oil strengths. The truth is, you know yourself better than anyone else so that a little trial-and-error will be inevitable.

Fortunately, you can reach out to health professionals who have some experience in using CBD. Consulting a doctor is also a good idea if you want to avoid potentially negative interactions with certain medications. For example, CBD interacts with many pharmaceutical substances because it uses the same group of enzymes to reach the bloodstream.

Final Thoughts: Which CBD Oil Strength Is the Best for You?

Choosing between different strengths of CBD oils can be a hard nut to crack. CBD comes in different forms, all each affects your body’s response differently. Once you’ve made up your mind on the format, take a moment to map out your goals with CBD, as this is another paramount factor for your final decision.

From there, make sure you know how much CBD is in the bottle and a single serving. Doing so will help you decide if your supplementation with a particular strength will be cost-effective in the long run.

If you want to grasp different CBD strengths better, spend some time researching the studies examining the efficacy of specific dosages on larger groups of people.

HOW TO UNDERSTAND CBD STRENGTH AND PRICE

Reading a CBD product label can sometimes feel like reading a maths paper. With percentages, milligrams and millilitres in play, CBD strength is easily misunderstood. We break down the numbers so you can better understand what’s in each CBD product and how to make an informed choice.

When we talk about strength of a CBD product, it’s about understanding how much Cannabidiol is included per volume. Determining strength can be a bit tricky and some product labels don’t make it easy to know exactly how strong a product is, or how potent a dose it provides.

When the CBD category first launched, CBD concentration was often shown in percentages, however the number of milligrams (mg) is the more important metric and typically refers to the total amount of cannabinoids in the product.

While there are many things to consider when purchasing CBD oil, understanding the strength of a product is important to be able to properly consider the price of a product as well as its efficacy, as you explore a CBD regime that works for you and your body.

CBD STRENGTH DECODED

Let’s say you’re looking at two bottles of CBD oil oral drops. One is a 10ml bottle which has 1000mg of CBD stated on the label, and the other is a 20ml bottle that is also stated as 1000mg.

Whilst both bottles contain the same overall amount of cannabinoids (1000mg), the bottles are two different strengths. In percentage terms, the 10ml bottle of CBD oil is 10% CBD and the 20ml bottle is 5% CBD, meaning that it will have half the amount of CBD per drop.

Understanding the strength per drop is helpful as this is how you will measure your dose:

  • A 10ml bottle is equal to 200 drops so to calculate the mg per drop you divide the total CBD mg by number of drops.
  • 1000mg / 200 drops (10ml) = 5mg CBD per drop.
  • For the 20ml bottle you have 400 drops which means that each drop is equal to 2.5mg of CBD (the same amount of CBD has been diluted into a larger volume of carrier oil, so each drop contains less).
  • The 10ml bottle is twice as strong, so you would need double the number of drops of the 20ml product to achieve the same dose.

We’ll chat CBD drops dosage in a separate story but recommendations on how many drops to take are included on each of our product pages and the FSA recently issued guidance of 70mg CBD max per day (approx. 28 drops of 5% CBD).

THE VALUE EQUATION

When comparing the price of products, you essentially want to know the price you are paying for each milligram of CBD, not the price per overall liquid amount. You should always follow a simple calculation when comparing different CBD products to get a true reflection of what you’re paying for. To get the ‘price per milligram of CBD’, simply divide the price by the amount of CBD mg:

PRICE

DIVIDED BY CBD MG

= PRICE PER MG OF CBD

BOTTLE 1

30ml CBD oil drops with 3000mg of CBD @ £140

0.05p per mg of CBD

BOTTLE 2:

30ml CBD oil drops with 600mg of CBD @£80

0.13p per mg of CBD

Bottle 1 may look more expensive to buy, but as the potency is higher, you have more CBD per drop and therefore a higher efficacy so you can use less drops of CBD oil for the same effect. With bottle 2 you’re actually paying double the price, even though it looks the opposite at first glance.

WHERE TO GET THE BEST QUALITY CBD

It can be confusing to know what CBD is good quality and what the strength of each bottle is. We recommend judging the strength of the CBD in mg and not percentage (%) – this is because when you purchase CBD, you are purchasing the amount of mg in a bottle. The difference with percentage is that you can have two 500mg bottles, for example, one in 30ml and one in 10ml – the amount of CBD in 10ml is the same as the 30ml but the 10ml has a 3x higher percentage. Yet, you are still only buying 500mg.

We have made it very easy to know the strength of the CBD you are purchasing by clearly displaying the number of mg in a bottle, not only that but our DAY DROPS are some of the strongest CBD oil drops in the UK.

Additional tip

Always read the ingredients label on CBD drops to check how the CBD is listed. Sometimes the % or mg of CBD listed within a product isn’t the pure CBD amount – it can refer to what is called a ‘CBD ingredient’ which itself could be a blend of CBD with another carrier i.e., a diluted down concentration of CBD.

Finding the right CBD products for you can feel overwhelming but don’t let the numbers deter you from jumping in and experiencing the restorative power of CBD oil. At APOTHEM we try and keep it as simple as possible. We only use 100% CBD isolate – the purest form of CBD available – stated in milligrams. We independently triple test each batch to ensure that the amount of CBD is accurate and that each batch of raw ingredient is 100% pure CBD isolate. This means, we can trust exactly what goes into each product, and so can you.
